First of all, dont start off by saying: oh damn I think I need to do an lp now for the sake of having it done. I for myself experienced two ways of creating art.
First: you´re sitting around, nothing´s going on and you´re bored. you open up PS and start fooling around, throw some shit´s together, straight out of your head. whatever floats your boat.
Second: you have a plan! you got inspired by something and got pretty much a concrete idea of what you´re wanting to do. I for myself often have a rough picture about how my end result will look in my head before I even start. you try to execute your idea the best you can.
You also gotta decide what style you´re going for. Do you want to make a photomanipulation, or rather a painting? do you want it to be in a 3D environment or make a 2D illustration. do you want to use stock imagery or make the shit from scratch. that´s where brush tool, pentool and what not comes in.
so the most common art forms propably are:
Photo Manipulation
Vector Illustration
Vexel
Paintings
Drawings
Typography
3D Art
Mixed Media ( includes almost everything from 3D modeling to manipulating and painting )
I´m sure I´ve forgot quite some things but you get the idea. determine what fits you best and what you wanna do. Then, get an idea of what you´re going to do. If you dont have ideas, dont even start. If you´re not one of the creative ones, get inspired. We talked this trough enough already on this board. There is a massive amount of inspiration laying everywhere. Either listen to music, check out art by other people, get out, walked trough your city / countryside / rain forest / jungle / desert and LET IT HAPPEN !
if you´ve done all that, and you have an idea of what you wanna do, then you can open your PS and get started. Now to be able to create a good piece of art or design, you should be able to control and master your tools. this can take a while. we´re talking about technical aspects here. I can have an awesome idea for a photograph. If I dont know how to get the maximum out of my camera, how to set my light, how to use the environment around me to benefit my work, I´ll most likely end up with a medicore snapshot, but not with a stunning piece of art. Here comes the point where I have my limits aswell. I sure am aware of most of the functions in photoshop, but I certainly haven´t mastered them all. So take your time and try out stuff, maybe start off by checking out artwork by great and experienced artists you like, and try to reproduce it. I know it´s quite unpopular to be the copycat, but it´s definately a good way to get to know things and improve.
At the end of the day tho, you have to be talented srsly. You cannot force it. Either you got the eye and the ideas, or you dont. the image editing programme is to artists, as the PC is to the computer scientists. A TOOL !
PS: It´s been a while since I took my time to write such a comment, so fuckin appreciate it or burn in hell.
afternoon ladies.
Well first of all, thank you very very much for the advice

It definitely wasnt my intention but i think ive been going at it like you described in that first line, thats good to know. Tbh im a little concerned about that, "youve got to be talented srsly." Im willing to work for this, but i cant help but think that its just not going to happen for me since i wasnt born with it you know ;/ Ill defintelely go take a stroll through my jungle and ive been looking through DA, PR, JSP for a few days now. theres definetely plenty of inspiration there. Controlling and mastering the tools will just come with time, correct? I do have a good foundation from tagging but im no master =P I would really like to try typography, but thats always been the hardest thing for me, and it seems like most people do their typography in illy, or do you just use ps?
Anyway, thanks again
