Wondering if I could get some layout advice from you all

I did this based off of a web hosting template service that I will be using for my shop in a week or so, I wanted to build something based off the template I will be using so I could go in and quickly set it up

wondering what I could do better layout wise?? Keep in mind I aligned all of this by eye and pretty quickly on photoshop, I am not trying to create perfection, the template will align it all nicely for me.

At first I was all convinced I was going to use Dreamweaver and learn HTML well enough to do something really awesome
and then I came back to reality

the photo is mine fyi

Well first, your logo needs to be somewhere towards the top left.

Sorry, it posted without the rest.

I was going to say use Wordpress. It's so interactive and adaptable - you can easily create an online store, connect to networks like facebook, foursquare, and tripadvisor. Just find a theme you like and adapt it to your needs - most themes are fairly inexpensive.

if you plan on using a picture as your BG I would either put your menu over a 50% opacity black/grey container like you have with the middle advertisement or make the font stronger. Your logo should be above the menu, preferably in white instead of the orange for the current picture you have selected as the orange does not stand out over all the dark yellows.

I take it is not a 1:1 scale?

Rather than having the black area, I would use
Code
background-size:cover

on the background image. It will scale it nicely, and it's a current trend. see this website for an example http://louisremi.github.com/background-size-polyfill/

You're branding is spot on, the logo does not need to be on the topleft, or anywhere else for that matter, as long as the brand is represented accurately, which it looks to me like it is.

Some things I would do,
  • Make the phone number and address a little more opaque/whiter
  • Remove that weird white line
  • Move phone number up

If you want a cheep way to get a management module installed, google a psd2html service, they can take your psd, convert it to html and even add in a CMS like Wordpress(I say this because you have blog in your menu), pretty reasonably priced also.

Agree with all of the above. Your branding is definitely on point. It's always a good sign when I look at a logo/brand and say, "Damn, I wish I'd done that."

That menu is going to be really hard to use, it's hard to see it.
