magic wand usually works, but this has glow, which might make it harder
use the pentool and render it

Render it with the pentool.

open up the image, unlock it, click on "channels"

ctrl shift click red, green, and blue individually

you should see the entire logo BUT the black selected.

go to layer --> new --> layer via copy

delete your original layer and you should have the logo without the background

You'll also have to ctrl click the channel "RGB"

with more complex images you'll have to use the pen tool

could try another way if the channel way doesn't work for ya

select -> color range -> select the black color on the preview -> click ok -> hit delete (you can slide the adjustment bar to adjust the selected area if it doesn't select it sharp enough)

you won't get a good render unless you physically trace it, whether you pentool it, lasso it or add a clipping mask and paint it away. the 3D effect and depth of the letters going back is covered in black shadow, so eyedropping or color selecting won't make up for it.. maybe adding a clipping mask and subtracting the black and then paint back in the depth of the letters.
