I just got my digipad today, so be gentle! ^_^ Any tips are more than welcome, as a lot of you are way better than I am.

First I did a sphere. I don't want to move on to color or harder shapes yet because my lighting seems pretty badly done.

make your highlight brighter

its almost the same value as the background

blending looks great!

shadow gives me a dizzy feeling... its slanting up and not as if it was on a flat surface

I have tons of photos saved for this. I've been collecting various fruit arrangement photos and stuff. Just don't feel confident enough yet. I'll probably grab an apple out of the fridge and try that.

perfect :)

Use larger brushes at the beginning, and gradually get smaller as you get closer to the details

1. make a good sketch, solid line drawing, keep in mind shape/perspective/volume
2. block in color ( or value ) underneath the sketch in a new layer, you can be sloppy and just use the eraser and clean up the edges.
3. make a new layer over both of the previous and begin to paint. More confident stronger strokes, also blending, keep in mind volume and lighting. Feel the shape as you paint it... paint/draw along the direction of the shape
4. begin hard blending and slowly start to work on details

Second attempt with my wacom. I'm pretty happy with it, I still don't like the drop shadow.

Thanks! I wish I could have gotten the tablet sooner. It's really fun. It has made smuding a breeze.

Definitely! Stay away from smudging when painting for the time being though!
