Take a 95% ES sorc, let's say that you would take 1000 physical PvP damage, the 95% ES comes in first reducing the 1000 to 50 damage to your HP pool. Now the 50 damage is reduced further by that 3 damage reduction, but it's 50-3=47 NOT 3% if 50 which is only 1.5 reduction where you would then instead take 48.5 damage. This may not seem like a big difference but the thing is this: you can only get 50% physical damage reduction which best case scenario you reduce the 50 damage down to 25, where if you had 50 flat damage reduction, you would take zero damage.

95-100% ES very similar.
I go 50 DR on an ES sorc so I don't nit pick over 3 DR this just adds to it, nice touch.
