As far as non--bugged items go, Blizzard only deleted 1.08 Arkaine's Valor, 1.08 Shako, 1.08 Grandfather and 1.08 Baranar's Star. These were removed because they had ridiculous life gain stats.

But, the WW we know today have different stats to this, so surely if they updated the item they would remove the previous version?

No, they intentionally left all the old patch items aside from the ones that I just named. It has been stated numerous times by Blizzard.
