1700 life + 5000 Mana with mana reg and life repl will allways beat 3000 life ??/ 700 mana on any build. If you get a big hit, you loose my 150 life and 1500 mana. Mana is full again after a few seconds and arround 10-20 life repl, will also fix the little life lost very fast.
With a strong energy shield you don´t even need a huge res stack, just psn res has to be max. A sorc without energy shield is an instant fail.
Your ring would fit more to other casters.
