yeah not sure where this story came from but fused uniques didn't come from meph, it came from item imports where affix data was copy/pasted to different unique, the game wouldnt flag these as a bad item like white or ith items. all the "fused" uniques were made like this

you can edit drop table, and go back to any version yourself and even with all items dropping unique you won't get a "fused" item

That’s interesting. Imports does sound more likely. I believed that even if you edit the drop table the chances for a fused unique was still incredibly small. Anyways, cool info!
