Good question, I did a little math on this in a dps pvm barb thread and laying came out by 84.5% more overall ED% in chaos/baal runs against all mobs.
However if you are running something other than cbaals, or if you felt the crushing blow output more dps in p8 game (with dycript it does a lot but couldnt figure out reliable math on this), rends might come out on top.

Something to note though, in Cbaal games its very possibly that with all the % ED modifers (might/fanat/conc/demons/ect), the ed from laying is highly reduced in effectiveness. Probably somewhere around 20% effective to guess.
This could push the crushing blow on rends over, but again its something I would have to really sit down and find a way to map out.
