Since you want to keep using very terrible analogies, I will provide you with an appropriate one: you simply bought an airline ticket for a flight. The flight was delayed/canceled. The airline is offering to refund your ticket. They are not responsible for your missed hotel stay, the restaurant that you fully booked for your anniversary dinner, your missed rental car, the concert you missed, the time you missed at work, or anything else that you speculated that you'd be able to arrive for.
