In summary ~ the EU wants Ukraine as a trade partner and Ally
Russia sees this as a Red line similar to the US-Cuban Missile Crisis
In this instance however the EU and US are not backing down
Therefore invasion by Russia into Ukraine is inevitable
i.e. A perfect example of US-EU politicians complete failure at diplomacy
The only winner here is China which appears to be the only super power with a credible long term plan

Why is it US-EU's failure when it's Russia doing the invading? It's a failure because they don't give into Putin?

Some people will blame appeasement on WW2 as well rather than the guy who built the world's strongest standing army and started attacking neighbors.

People will blame a pact that members join to not get invaded by Russia for getting invaded by Russia. "Leave this pact that prevents us from invading you now under threat of force".

People join NATO willingly. Warsaw Pact not so much. Crazy all this cold war stuff coming back, it is like the 80's again, war games with russia and a half demented president lol.

Yup. Again, why is Russia invading a neighbor US-EU's fault? What about when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014? Who's fault was that?

fyi - Ukraine hasn't joined NATO, and Putin doesn't get to decide who defends Ukraine.

And to add, the Warsaw Pact dissolved over 30 years ago.

harris/biden admin already said it’s fine for putin to invade so long as it’s a “minor invasion”

US should not get involved

It's a failure because their policies led to this and they are not backing down. Look I get the view "but let Ukraine decide for themselves" but the reality is that a Trade Deal and Joining Nato for Ukraine would weaken Russia and expose Russia and Putin has spent his entire political life trying to reverse what had happened before him (i am not arguing whether this is right or wrong, i merely provide context). Why was America up in arms re: Cuban missile crises ? because if allowed to happen it would weaken America and expose America and they did not want that.

Everyone's austerity measures are failed, usually this is the pre req for internal or external conflict. Russia pushing external. US and EU initially pushing on their own people. Better to rally against the common boogieman

Maybe if Putin wasn't a mob boss....oh, never mind. The Cuban missile crises is exactly what may happen again if Russia invades Ukraine. It would get Putin's nukes closer to the USA.

The Cuban Missile crisis analogy relates to Russia encroaching on US's back door.
Here we have the EU encroaching on Russia's back door.
Your comment re: Putin's nukes closer to the USA makes no sense whatsoever.
