Yep agree with everything and worth mentioning, the season Lemieux won (87-88) he also scored 70 goals which was 14 goals more than 2nd place. Pretty much a no brainer to give the Hart to a guy who wins the Art Ross and Rocket Richard (though it didnt exist yet).
The McDavid for Hart trophy has been getting a lot of traction up here but I don't think it should be won by a non-playoff team player unless he absolute dominates the league. While McDavid is definitely the best offensive player, I wouldnt say he's been head and shoulders more dominate than other guys.
This is a fair comment imo.
We can't deny the fact Mcdavid is the best offensive player in the game right now.
However when you look at Hall having 93 points, being the clear leader, and seeing the next guy only has 53 points it is obvious he put the team on his shoulders and carried them to a playoff spot they had no chance of getting without him.
to me that is what the most valuable characteristic is of the award. Another example would be Nathan Mackinnon. No way is Colorado 1 win away from the playoffs without him. However Colorado has a more even spread of scoring, which is why I would give it to Hall.
You have to feel for Mcdavid who could do nothing more to help the team, yet they still don't make the playoffs. When was the last time a 100+ point scorer did not go to the playoffs? That is absolutely ridiculous. The rest of the Oilers sans Draisatl and maybe a couple others should be absolutely ashamed of themselves to let an effort like that be wasted.
