Lol you guys.
It has nothing to do with the playoffs. If you read what the Hart stood for you'd know that. Kopitar barely breaks top 10 and Hall is sitting 6 or 7th right now. It is for the person that is deemed most valuable to their team. That's it. And if you've been paying attention the more and more the media keeps talking about it the more they are actually starting to think that way. The reason that is, is because there hasn't been someone of McDavids calibre on a non playoff team in a very long time. My 5 as they stand right now are McDavid, MacKinnon, Hellebuyck, Giroux, Vasi. Followed by Marchand, Hall, Kuch, Karlsson, Kopitar.
McDavid has 19 more even strength points than anyone else in the field (81) in a game where 5 on 5 points are very hard to come by. He's a +18 on a -31 team (+/- although a flawed stat is still revered by the PHWA), he is the only player currently over 100 points and he's been in on 45% of all Oilers goals this year compared to Hall and Mackinnons 38%. McDavid has also produced more points than anyone with more teammates than anyone else has had to play with this year. He has had 12 different wingers with him at any given point this season. Everyone else in the conversation has had the stability of the same linemates for most of the year through no fault of his own.
McDavid is very much in the conversation and if you think otherwise then you aren't listening to the people that actually have votes
Last player to win the hart and not make the playoffs was lemiuex
He had something like 160 pts and was in on 56% of the team's offense that year. It's not happening.
I had MacKinnon as my mvp until these last 6-8 games he has dropped off.
I think it's halls to win at this point. 17 pts in last 10 games to literally carry them into the playoffs
