Also when I was in a bar in Seoul where the foreigners hang out, I went to the bar for a drink and tried to make conversation with these South Africans dudes (they were black). They looked at me like I shot their nan and seemed very wary/untrusting, like I must have been up to something to talk to them. At this point I realised that in South African culture there must still be a de facto apartheid.
I have co-workers from there who everyday had to move from a gated complex into a vehicle with security at all time. Everyday was gates , security and vehicles with guards traveling with them. They eventually moved due to it being no way to bring up a child. Cape Town still has the highest murder rate out of any cities in South Africa and South African cities maintain a spot near the top most violent cities in the world. South American cities are doing a nice job of claiming the top 10 I believe right now. Would I still go as a tall white blond hair blue eyed guy, sure no problem. But to say you didn't see any of the gated lifestyle I don't believe.
