With about 5% of ppl being able to sustain any weight loss (if lost at all), that's a rather heavy moral obligation.

So yeah, she's right ;)

We just came to the conclusion in this very thread that 100% of human beings are physically able to lose or gain weight. Am I missing something?

Is that the question to my previous answer ? Did I need to highlight "sustain" ?

She is factually incorrect.

''I do think there's such a health focus in our country that I call it Healthism, a kind of moral obligation for people to be healthy and I think we have to watch that too.''

She contradicts her last sentence with this one.
Plus, yes, you have moral obligation to be healthy, especially in a society with Universal Healthcare like here in Canada. Keyword is moral.
She might american, but don't you guys wanna move towards that as well?

Sorry I didn't mean those parts, I meant regarding the "I do think there's such a health focus in our country... a kind of moral obligation to be healthy..." which I couldn't agree more with, and threads like this are a perfect example. duff seems to feel personally wronged by other people's life choices that don't affect him.

And as per your last line harumi, yes I was assuming this was the United States and there is some merit to being critical of voluntary decisions that harms one's health in a nation where taxpayers pay for their healthcare. I think that's an extension to this discussion.

I weight like 215 now. I also haven't exercised regularly in over a year and I eat absolute shit. It's my fault. I could eat better and exercise and probably drop back down to the 180 pounds I weighed for the last 5-10 years.

People are lazy. Easier to whine.

I think people just can't get enough of there own shitty opinions.

This whole thread was started by some whiny boohooer trying to start shit, like who gives a fuck? I'm in the same boat as you need to drop a few, have family members that are much heavier but is it really a deal at all? Other than a personal problem?

The US is approaching a 1/3 obesity rate , this is even higher for women and 5% or more is heading towards morbid obesity. Childhood obesity is increasing which affects not only physical development but psychological/emotional well being and cognitive well being as well.

These numbers are increasing as well and we should care about this because not only does it make an unhealthy society physically wise, but affects the mental health of the country as well. Increases the risks of diabetes , high blood pressure and heart disease.

Shaming isn't the answer but the obesity epidemic is going to be the worst health crisis modern humans have ever faced since we didn't have to worry about plagues anymore. If this continues , life spans will drop , quality of life overall will drop and healthcare costs will significantly rise as well.

It's bad news.

Your personal choice places an unnecessary and ever increasing burden on the healthcare system. Other than that your right , no one should give 2 shits what you do to your body as long as your not bitching about the consequences of your personal choice.
