That's the recommended dietary amount for athletes it isn't from the "protein powder industry". Whey protein is a complete protein and will be absorbed. I never said I get 100% of my protein from powder but I do have a shake to supplement some since it's easier than getting all my protein from food.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics reports that although athletes only need about 1 gram of protein per kilogram to maintain muscle mass, they require 1.4 to 1.8 grams of protein per kilogram to build muscle mass; this is equivalent to about 0.64 to 0.82 grams of protein per pound of body weight each day.

Not to mention by ATHLETE they are most likely talking about professionals not some gym rats who workout 3-6 hours a week lol.

The OP makes a couple of valid points. I think that 10-20 years from now people will look back at the amount of protein people today are consuming and shake their heads. It is simply not healthy for the human body to constantly process excess amounts of protein. Whey protein in excess, is not as salubrious for you as plant base protein, I am convinced. I do not recommend eating 1-2 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day.

I know that I won't stop people from eating their whey protein, nor do I intend to... So as a resolve I will only recommend eating smaller dosages of your whey protein and realize that your body can only process a certain amount of it over a certain period of time. Instead of having a post workout smoothie with 2-3 scoops of whey protein (40-60+ grams of protein) only use 1 scoop or even half of a scoop.

It is a mistake of our times this fad of "high protein / high fat / low carbohydrate diets."

I said about 1g/lb I know you need a little less than that to gain muscle I wasn't speaking in exact RDA terms so I rounded up to 1. I guess I overstated it a bit though so my mistake. The issue with most plant based proteins is they aren't complete so you need to have complimentary proteins to ensure it's utilized which is why whey is so popular. But yes plant-based would be healthier than animal I agree. Do you have a source on protein absorption rates? Haven't seen any reason to limit protein per meal/shake so curious. I agree low carb diets are fads and never advocate for them. Carbs are a good cheap source of energy for the body. There's nothing wrong with that.

So you think plant based protein is overall healthier? I take a bit of both sometimes, but 85% of the time I take plant

Hnf knows this silly juan.

Some round up to 1g/lb a day to ease their mind

You know you do need a lot more when in a caloric deficit though. That's when most people take protein supplements.

I'm just going to pretend I didn't see the part about the estrogen
