How about a national system for everyone under the age of 18 (or 26 or somewhere between those ages) who isn't covered by a parent's or own employer plan, nationalized coverage for pregnant women, add some family leave in there, federal takeover of Medicaid to streamline it, then add in some goodies like being able to purchase any insurance across state lines to drive competition, bump age benefits to 67... I don't know, there are good ideas on both sides. Just take the best ideas and combine them as best as possible.
Or just commit to saving the country lots of money and do a Medicare for All bill while allowing a competing private sector to still exist with the whole state lines thing included for people who want "cadillac" plans above and beyond MFA. It's fiscally conservative. It's also socialist. Makes perfect sense to me as a bipartisan reform.
