Residue was indeed recovered from samples collected from the gas chambers, the Leuchter report claiming there was no evidence of hydrogen cyanide has been savaged.

Many to most of the murders were done by the SS and/or the Wehrmacht just killing people instead of mass slaughter in concentration camps. The Nazis specifically mobilised people in order to systematically kill Jews wherever they could find them.
