Idk lunges are a pain in the ass (literally) exercise that wear you out quickly. Most people aren't in shape enough for much weight therefore its automatically higher intensity.

With Leg Press 3 sets of 8 hardly ever feels like much. With lunges it's wayyyy different. Lunges are just a much more taxing exercise

agree, i try not to use any machines, only use them if im tried and not feeling on that day

i do my lunges with kettlebell raised above my head

good balance, leg and core work out

There are so many different variations for lunge motion.

Walking Lunges
Reverse Lunges
Alternating Lunges
Curtsy Lunges
Lateral Lunges

I've heard of people replacing Squats with Leg Press though. Like one day do squats, other day go press.

Can also do single leg press, sumo-press/squat, focus of ham's, quads, etc it's really want you want to go with mang and what you need/want to focus on

I only do low bar squats 3x a week and I have big legs. 0 leg/calf accessories besides sumo deads. (Which isn't even an accessory)
