I hate the "inner city" argument. If you live in a crappy area of an inner city you could very easily move to a crappy house in the country for the same price or cheaper and have a far lower crime rate and better schools.

You give up a lot of the conveniences though, like not needing a car, low commute time and cost, etc.

Sure, but I don't like when I hear parents raising kids talking about how dangerous it is if they aren't willing to take some inconvenience of time, if you assume they have a car. If they don't then yeah I guess I get it, but if you're taking mass transit daily, that's probably more expensive than owning a car anyways.

Loss if support network, if you are renting those aren't in great supply in the country, if you're taking mass transit you can't just stop and get a car immediately, the barrier to transition is higher than some people can cross, and if you're single you probably had a family member watching your kid, there's a lot more to up heaving your family than you realize.
