He's honestly stuck in a shitty situation. He won't be able to remove them for a long time, but can't remove them himself. We need to seriously change the laws on this one. I feel for the guy but he chose exactly the wrong option.

This. If it's vacant it's obviously not needed for anything. Why let people sleep out in the cold when there are literally millions of vacant buildings in the US? Property should be used. If it remains unused for a defined period (say a year) they should have to sell it back to the govt at an independently determined price (equal to market value). Then it should be used to house those who need homes or for other public services as needed/appropriate.

Agreed. It puts people in bad situations. Still if the state doesn't step up to help the less fortunate then they have little option. I've had friends die purely because they didn't have anywhere to go at night. One froze to death in an underpass and another was kicked in the head by random drunks. This shit shouldn't be happening in the developed world and certainly not in any nation that wishes to consider itself 'civilised'.

In a socialist state the govt pays for it.

Here in the uk we don't pay for waste disposal unless items are unusually large or dangerous. You have to pay your garbage men?
