...then again, i'm pretty sure most realists would agree that invading and annexing a country is worse than winning the illegitimate political influence war in a country...

is it really?
to quote your wording, what is the case when the wrong side "winning the illegitimate political influence war" affects national security?

Well, we have different views on the way we measure the russian and allied actions in Ukraine. I think that's fine and we're both allowed to have our own point of view on the matter. Maybe I'm lacking faith in humanity, but for the most part I think that deterrence is what stops wars and not the legitimacy of a country's actions.

Would you disagree with me if I said there is no demand for communism in Europe? Or if I said there is no demand for the governments to bann abortion or to reintroduce death penalty? Obviously you can find thousands of people with those demands, but they aren't a widely significant amount of the population. The fact is that not many people are voting for parties that want a more transparet and modern form of democracy. Would more people vote for them if there was a greater freedom and media indpendence? Probably. But it seems like the majority of russians aren't really interested in having those freedoms. So I say let them be if that's what they wish.

It's the national holiday (aka Russia Day) and demonstrations aren't allowed. Navalny knew this and could have protested any other day, but he still organized this illegal protest just to make international headlines.

Honestly I think it's pretty disgusting to use the national holiday for this kind of stuff. While I do think people should have the right to protest against any government, this shouldn't be the day for it. National holidays should be kept aside from political matters that divide the country's people.

getting arrested on the day celebrating the rise of democracy in russia, protesting the very man who has been undermining the process (including restricting russian's right to protest) to the best of his ability...

Russia is not a western nation in which democratic principles are held in high regard. Not sure why you think they adhere to western standards of freedom when it's never been the case.

Is Russia Evil?

Ofc not. How could a whole country be evil. Question doesn't even make sense.

Is N. Korea evil...ofc not. Again, the wrong question.

Even answering these types of questions, allows the belief to exist and grow, that a whole country COULD be evil. Just plain silly.

MU! Un-ask the question.

You must think you're the only person who ever read a history book. :)

Is a tree evil? Same type of inane question.
