it seems the debate on the link between smoking and cancer has not been settled as the current vp himself denies the link between smoking and cancer and smoking giants are still using this defense today in lawsuits

let's start the official smoking-cancer debate on pard :o (don't think we've had one)

does smoking cause cancer? a quick counter to those who choose to bring up anecdotal evidence about people who smoked getting cancer - correlation does not imply causation

please bring real evidence if you wish to argue the smoking-cancer "link"

In 2000, Gov. Mike Pence (R-IN), then running for an open U.S. House seat, came out against a proposed settlement between government and the tobacco industry, calling it “big government.” In a shocking editorial, he wrote: “Time for a quick reality check. Despite the hysteria from the political class and the media, smoking doesn’t kill.” Pence acknowledged that smoking is not “good for you,” but claimed that two-thirds of smokers do not die from smoking related illness and “9 out of ten smokers do not contract lung cancer.” He warned of a slippery-slope in which government would soon seek to discourage fatty foods, caffeine, and SUVs..

Yes it does cause cancer, mechanisms between cancer and several of the compounds known to be produced from smoking tobacco are already well understood and have been well understood for many many years. You can actually look up many of these mechanisms as they are freely available. If you would like, I can take pictures and send you pages from my textbook I have from my university years that shows these mechanisms.

I accidently voted No lol

It increases the rate of all of those things.

However it's not exactly a death sentence to smoke.

do unhealthy shit and the chances increase of an early demise or a miserable bunch of years/experiences

but so does not having vices and absorbing the negativity and misery of the world

I'm all on board with it causing shit but I don't necessarily think people shouldn't do it.

How is this a political or religious topic. :)

I've smoked ciggs for 40 years...I'm atm, trying to quit.

I think ciggs will cause emphysema, but I don't know about cancer.
