Anyone know the status of open carry in NC? Does it require a permit or was this guy also legally carrying?

It's a reflection of your character. When a guy spends 7 years in prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon i'd be weary if i was the cop having to confront him when he has a gun on him. Not saying the officer knew his record, nor does he deserve to die because of his passed deeds.

Pretty liberal about it, iirc. A few municipalities have rules bit is generally open carry afaik

From what I see on Wikipedia open carry is allowed.

Whether or not the guy was rightfully shot depends entirely on whether the cops were actually under a threat. Seeing as we don't have that information, that makes this entire thread a bit pointless.

Agreed, but there is a video, which appears to not show him pointing it directly at an officer. Still the gun vs. book narrative shows how early in the information game we are.

Immediate actions aren't relevant to these people

That shit stain Michael brown robbed a store moments before he attacked a cop and got shot yet his death became a big part the black lives matter movement
