is this the damage I take from my health points? Or overall damage

example

If I have an es % of 90, and damage goes to mana % of 50, and I take 1000 damage, will only 10% of my damage be transferred to DTM making it 50+ mana? Or will it be 500+ to mana regardless of es %?

You take damage and you get mana. Exactly what it says

The problem being that es gives you high %dr so you don't take damage

if choise not a light sorc (or at least lesser +all/sorc/light skills), then will be nice balance.

For example if you have Meteor+Fo build, you dont will have light skillers, and choise +2cold/fire amulet with mass fcr..
and gear many DGTM (nightsmoke 50%, aldur 10%, dgtm jewels, Ith runes, Naj's set armor 45%).. you can make 100%+

in case of light sorc build, you can reduce skills by choise for example: crescent moon (already -3 skills)

*with fo/mete build you can make 8lvl es (55 sorb)

Which is only viable with low % es and only when you get hit with attacks that both trigger dtm and don't have a mana drain effect or mana burn. If you're investing that many stats, items and skill points in ~50% dr then you might as well just use a ber stormshield for the same effect.

Mana burn - will eat mana in any case, with ES or without. So it is not a point.
Mana drain mobs in game only souls/fly specters. Souls - agressive, yes.. But specters - suck, they die fast die. And dont forgot about possibility to use Insight/Phoenix.
I also prefere use Oculus on ES hardcore builds, just cause it porting you from strong mobs out.. just might smart play, cus tele by ocu - back from hit.

Why you cant use Storm and Es skill? HC == Storm. (or at least shaft+spirit for pure start of season)

The only dtm-triggering thing I can think of that's capable of killing a stormshield sorc is an urdar or /frenzy pack. it's not worth 20 skill points and 5+ gear/jewel slots
