VA is 3rd world medicine

Doctors go there who historically want a retirement job or something very lax job. The nurses Union is so powerful especially there that incompetence is not discriminated against. I feel for any patient at the mercy of the VA system and think the whole network should be scrapped

Trump's gonna fix it, he cares about vets. Unlike Hillary "Gazi" Clinton.

Unlike private practices everywhere, where we can typically be seen the same day or within a few, the veteran's administration hospitals and doctors are what America's socialized healthcare looks like. And it is ugly.

I must just live in a shitty town. It takes minimum a week to get an appointment with any private doctor I've tried to go to. The only one I have easy access to is the campus wellness center, but their resources are limited.

Takes 1-2 weeks to get an appointment here as well.

As for the subject. 30 days is nothing. After they tore down the local VA hospital here, wait times for my father were anywhere from 2 months to 6 months, with a 2 hour trip one way just to get an appointment. One time he almost died because the VA wouldn't give him his Albuterol.

...the VA has never caught up with the modern survival rates of wounded soldiers and combined with the aging Vietnam Vet population we have a disaster that only a substantial influx of new tax money will address .

I'm in the Minneapolis area, and I can pretty much see a doctor whenever I want. My last couple appointments for GP and PT, I could have been seen sooner but my work schedule didn't allow, so they were put off for a day or two.

Seriously, they should just let vets go wherever is convenient for them, and pay the hospital.

This is the problem. It's just more bodies needing more services, flat out, and there's nothing that can solve that other than a whole lot of money that no one's really talking about spending.

Near SF here, and similar experience. Appointments are usually prompt (next day availability, etc). They do over-medicate, though--I got 4 boxes of painkillers the last time I saw the doctor without asking for anything, and a prescription for muscle relaxants without asking for that either. A little bit overboard, almost like she was throwing pills at me to get me to leave.
