It's all subjective interpretation.

Well, it's subjective from our end but it's objective truth. Sometimes Christian's bend the edges of the truth, but most of us have the basics down.

Well, the girl is white, so I assume these parents were Christian.

I wonder what scripture they cite to explain why they don't believe in medical treatment.

Not sure about these parents, as they've not (to my knowledge) done any public comment. However, when I was looking up scripture used by folks who profess faith healing the one that I kept seeing over and over was James 5:14-15.

Quote
"Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him."

Should the State have the right to intervene when a child's life is in danger,?

Not a right, but a duty.

As an addendum to the topic, perhaps explore people who willingly forego treatment for non-religious reasons, say for example anti-vaxxers?

Their children should be banned from public schools if they cannot be forced to vaccinate.

This situation looks like abuse.

However, I fear the slippery slope which might result in overreach by the government. Circumcision could be argued as abuse and thus parents could be charged.

It is.

Objective truths can be measured.

Yeah I think prosecution is correct here. Faith based healing is asinine in the current day and age. This is literally some pre-medieval shit.

True, just not with human minds.

A tragedy

Patients should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. I am not against making an example of them to put an end to occurances such as these,

It is abuse and once laws are finally passed that recognise circumcision as MGM then anyone involved in performing the procedure without the person's consent or before they are old enough to consent should be charged. Barring, of course, situations in which circumcision is necessary for health reasons

@op - cases such as these should be prosecuted harshly as an example and deterrent. Prison time and hefty compensation for the victim. Negligent manslaughter or whatever the American equivalent is in cases where death occurs.

Never going to happen in America.

Art thou angry?
