Let's pretend the federal government implemented a law that raised the min. wage to $10/hour this year, $12.50/hour next year, and $15/hour the year after that.

Do you think this would help the economy? Would it decrease the black youth unemployment rate?

Maybe, leaning towards no.
No.

Raising it to a "living wage" in places probably wouldn't be a horrible thing, but $15 is pushing it I think.

I think it would force businesses who employ low wage workers to continue to force full-time workers into part-time, cut jobs, and increase automation. I'm no economist though.

Is this one of those democratic policies that no liberals on PaRD support?

If it helps black youth unemployment rates at all, a 25$ rate would be sure to solve it once and for all!

...I think it would speed up the introduction of technology to replace low skill workers resulting in less minimum wage jobs .

I suggest we pay everyone $50/h and solve all problems that way!

It's not like wages reflect any real world economic activity.

It's not going to solve unemployment, but it'd keep people who have no better options from being truly desperately fucked.

$15 might be a bit much in the flyovers tho, tbh.

Wouldn't it be a bad idea to mandate a wage that would take more poor teens/young 20 somethings out of the workforce?

I mean, even the most liberal economists admit that an increase in the minimum wage increases poor unemployment.

It would do a mix of raisng the price level and/or creating employment. Long-term benefits are nonexistent.

We should tie the minimum wage to 0.60x a living wage depending on the area calculated every year. Then we can stop talking about this issue every god damn year.
