Nyc Schools Close For Muslim Holiday - Topic

so it looks like some nyc schools have begun recognizing muslim holy days

personally i like a few more holidays so 2 more days is nice regardless of the religion in question

curious where everyone stands on this ^_^ ?

I don't mind, celebrating Abraham is ok by me.

I'm confused though why the left is so enamored with a religion that is objectively more violent and oppressive than Christianity.

This type of policy should be dictated at the local level. Here in Los Angeles, the schools close for Jewish holidays in addition to Christian holidays because a large amount of students would be absent. Why keep the school open if a large portion of students aren't attending? I'm sure you can make the same case for certain areas with large Muslim populations.

If 3 people left class once a month, not a big deal. If 30% of the school was Pastafarian, id surmise theyd close the school on the first Friday of every month.

I'm not sure what the deal is either. It is just such a reactive position to take. But we have plenty of reactionaries too. The new South Park with PC Principle was pretty funny.
