This is pretty sound advice, eat food that has as little processing as possible done to it. The less times that man has had the chance to screw around with it the better off you are. Take applesauce for instance we love it on our cottage cheese that we make from the whey milk. The applesauce from a jar is loaded with sugar and corn syrup, and all sorts of crap. But you can quickly cook down a few apples at home and smash them up, add some cinnamon and natural applesauce no added sugars. 5-10 minutes.
Don't forget it hasn't been that long since McDonalds was caught putting pink slime into their beef.
