I've lost about 8 grand in the past few weeks because of this. I spend about 40 bucks on gas per month so low oil prices hurt me way more than they help.

If you saw the news weeks ago that Saudi Arabia had no intention of dialing back production and didn't shift assets, that's your own fault.

Yeah we sure are im worried. Not any time soon,  but in a year or two. I weld and a lot of the work i do is new construction for cnrl ipl cenovus and devon energy. The new construction will eventually come to a stop or big slow down. Unless people like me can land a maintenance gig somewhere it will be super hard to find work. Silly Saudi stop plz

I just got a job up at Fort Hills for Fischer Powerline.
Seems electrical work is still fine at the moment. But if imagine a repeat of the 2008 economic crash which brought everything to a screeching hault.

40 bucks on gas a month? I spend at a minimum three times that a week...Sometimes about 10x that.

Russia's oil has never been a serious point in whether we should intervene in the Ukraine.

The only reason we haven't is that the Ukraine isn't worth a war with Russia.

Looking forward to this... but also scared it will just be another George Lucas/Spielberg style rape of my childhood. Same goes for the new Jurassic park... I mean GM dinosaurs??? What the fuck...

How the hell did an article on the price of oil degenerate into a discussion of central bank monetary policy?

I think we need to see beyond the current glut. It's a boon while it happens, but it will be impossible to shake out the shale producers for long. Reduced investment will be met by falling operating costs and increased investment when oil moves back up.

This could be hugely damaging to Russia, Iran, and Venezuela, though, and from the Saudi perspective that's mostly good.

Iranian and Russian money is propping up Assad and the Iranian funds the Shia-movement in Iraq.

When these countries lose the ability to pay for their foreign clout the Sauds principally benefit (along with the United States). Should this precipitate regime change in Russia or Venezuela the price of oil would skyrocket, benefiting the remaining OPEC members far more than a temporary cut now.
