do you want a free market or a competitive market? you can't have both

Competitive. I understand that a completely free market cannot exist in a world occupied by unscrupulous people. How best to achieve that however, is a matter of great debate.

Yes, because I don't like paying artificially high prices for my energy.

Oil going above $150 is not the free market's fault. It is OPEC's.

was talking about fluctuations, too high or too low!

OPEC is "free market"

it's their oil they can do whatever with it LOL.

Tomorrow you invent new fruit called santarabananatroll, you and some neightboors are holding 80% of santarabananatroll...
You decide to group yourselves and keep prices high; Free market... ?

OPEC is anti-competitive collusion so they don't have to compete.

In my opinion this has more to do with bringing Russia to its knees than anything else. We all know of the deep ties between US and Saudis this is a win win for both. Russia energy sector suffers and with time giving a bigger market to the gulf states, while US has one of its arch enemies slowly drained of its life blood.

Also you have to get your head of your ass if you think this will last very long, its a short matter of time before prices bounce back up, hard to say if it will be a few years or 10+ years.
Regardless of increased production, there is/will be a increase in demand of epic proportions as more and more nations like India, Bangladesh etc continue to have a growing middle class which will become very hungry consumers.

Low oil prices might be good in the short term but if they hurt or collapse extremely important economies, the world will suffer. Africa for the most part only has importance economically because of Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa. If oil prices harm the Nigerian economy, we will see repercussions across Africa. If Russia collapses, Eastern Europe will suffer immensely, and countries like Germany whom have many companies with large infrastructure in Russia will also take a hit.

It's your shale production and the saudis playing poker flooding the market putting prices down to make your high refining costs not worth it to do. And to start buying instead.

Alberta gonna feel the pinch too. But not as bad.

Yeah we sure are im worried. Not any time soon, but in a year or two. I weld and a lot of the work i do is new construction for cnrl ipl cenovus and devon energy. The new construction will eventually come to a stop or big slow down. Unless people like me can land a maintenance gig somewhere it will be super hard to find work. Silly Saudi stop plz

I've lost about 8 grand in the past few weeks because of this. I spend about 40 bucks on gas per month so low oil prices hurt me way more than they help.

Why'd you lose so much? Is your investment portfolio that big on oil?

I kinda like this because it'll probably make my flight for the next summer vacation a lot cheaper. (6mo delay should then be over)
