In terms of wealth, my percentile isn't great since I am young my retirement account isn't particularly large. My income level, however, is in the top 97%. I really don't think I should have the government take more from me given how much I already give to them. I can DEFINITELY spend all my money in a given year and not live a super luxurious life style.
Nobrow hit the nail on the head...it's the top .1% who have a shit ton of money who will never be able to spend it. It doesn't bother me that they have ridiculous sums of money either. The best thing to increase the standard of living is to improve technology. That'll go so much further than just "giving them money."
I am assuming the area where you live has a large cost of living associated with it?
I forgot to add in my post #15 the amount taken should also be scaled by cost of living, if you live in a high cost of living area it should be less because your living expenses are higher, however this would become negligible at the highest brackets.
Taking from their savings shouldn't even be necessary. Campaign finance laws and a progressive tax structure are more than enough, however we don't have those anymore
