being able to adapt requires tools to adapt ~ education along with a means to survive that period ~ food/shelter etc.

who is going to pay for this?

what of those who choose not to adapt, or are simply incapable of adapting? do we consider them not fit to survive and leave them to die off on their own if no one else intervenes?

I never said I don't believe in free education, for a necessary time. Taking more from the rich is just not necessary for such a thing.

In terms of wealth, my percentile isn't great since I am young my retirement account isn't particularly large. My income level, however, is in the top 97%. I really don't think I should have the government take more from me given how much I already give to them. I can DEFINITELY spend all my money in a given year and not live a super luxurious life style.

Nobrow hit the nail on the head...it's the top .1% who have a shit ton of money who will never be able to spend it. It doesn't bother me that they have ridiculous sums of money either. The best thing to increase the standard of living is to improve technology. That'll go so much further than just "giving them money."

if we do provide it for free it still comes at a cost - to whom is what i'm asking? you already know my answer would be theft via taxation hitting those on top harder than those on the bottom

I am assuming the area where you live has a large cost of living associated with it?

I forgot to add in my post #15 the amount taken should also be scaled by cost of living, if you live in a high cost of living area it should be less because your living expenses are higher, however this would become negligible at the highest brackets.

Taking from their savings shouldn't even be necessary. Campaign finance laws and a progressive tax structure are more than enough, however we don't have those anymore :(

I live in West LA at the moment so it's not too bad if you find the right place. A really really good deal would be about 800/month where I live. The worst is the San Fran Bay area (fuck the filter).

i don't have any explicit goals here, i just want to know what people value and the means by which they are willing to obtain it

you believe the children are not at fault but also believing providing money to the family is not the solution, i am asking you what your goals are (clearly you have some idea of how society ought to be) and how you would go about achieving it realistically

i do not see any problem for the government to fix, hence the gov shouldn't be paying money to the families. income distribution is not a government problem as far as i can see, until i see evidence on the contrary.

All of us, with a flat rate on taxes.
No need to raise them either, start cutting spending in other areas.

Seriously, 800? Would you get shot living there? I pay more than that and where I live is cheap.

No, it's actually a really nice area. I do, however, have 2 room mates. If I got a studio for myself, it'd probably be 1000.

What city do you live in?
