I've never seen any evidence that a game makes you more violent no matter how real it is.

If that was the case Football should have had kids tackling each other in the classroom en masse a hundred years ago.

School shootings are becoming a lot more common, and access to more realistic video games is also becoming a lot easier.
Before columbine no one had even thought of doing it, and we all know by now that dylan and eric were obsessed with doom.
The problem is its a ridiculously hard thing to prove.

Odd point, i actually have a scar on my head from where some jock tackled me on the playground after a game and dropped me on a rock when i was 11.

The reason this myth got started was exactly that, the Columbine shooters obsession with Doom.

However, since then we have studied it and found no relationship.

Which is interesting because EVERY school shooter since those two would have had access to violent media.
Have the studies been done on regular kids or sociopaths?
Maybe if you already have a condition that causes lack of empathy then predisposition to violent media may kick you up a notch.

The caveat being EVERY kid has had access to violent media.

For reals though, we can't have this discussion unless you're at least passingly familiar with the literature. I encourage you to do some research on the topic because it's been studied pretty thoroughly since the uproar.

This is a fact, but that is not how mental illness works, there may be a million kids with bipolar, and 7 of them may be triggered by a violent movie or game.
Would be hard to prove but i would posit that it is fairly likely that this is the case.
We already know many serial/spree killers have been obsessed with certain violent movies.
The likelyhood this would apply to the media of cinema but not to video games is slim to me.

I personally think allowing 9-12 year olds play violent video games centred around mass murder is a bad idea.

Yeah I have standards.

Clearly not in who you hang out with or you'd be able to find people who aren't spoilt brats or total plebs.

At least in England I've found that to be the case. Perhaps America is just so saturated with idiots it's impossible to get away from them. You tell me - you live there.

I know you're poking fun , but yes this was all started as a campaign by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation. It got it's footing back in May. They're kind of pissed right now.

Ah so that's what you mean by conservatives. Yeah they come and go and try the whole think of the children thing every once in a while. The thing I was talking about were the regressive left from gaming journos and SJW circles. There's a difference between the two groups, one is a bunch of old people not knowing anything about gaming and computers/media just like in the Jack Thompson days. The other "side" has ugly beards and multi coloured haired individuals and seek to shame and defame everyone who's not on the groupthink bandwagon.

Don't forget Marilyn Manson, the man responsible for the most school shootings in history
I remember when he decided to break his silence and went for a tour of interviews on Bill O'Reilly and all the talkshows.

No the UK is just as full of people who are constantly connected. Go to any coffee shop or pub. Just sit and look around you will see people talking to others while ones face is down on their cellphone.

Games, social media, reddit, whatever it's all the same. It's obnoxious.

Eye contact is a crutch for those with poor social skills.

It takes far more social prowess to communicate effectively without looking at somebody.
