This guide seems the best way to go for me, but I have always wondered how to determine how much dex I need for max block. I know it depends on my equipment, but I didn't see the formula written out.

Thanks, everyone who asked meaningful questions (i.e. read the guide) and to those who posted kind compliments!

Telekinesis is a synergy to energy shield; I thought everyone would know that by now. Same with max block formula,

great guide, very informative. i'm just wondering why you chose the a2 normal defiance merc. after reading the guide through it wasn't explained why defiance would be better than say prayer, or holy freeze. is defiance perfect for meph only where holy freeze would be good for eld/pindle/shenk? what are your views on the different auras?

Well fecktelonious rex, I knew I'd forgotten something. Nice catch.

Might - damage is bad for dolls; mercs can't leech off Mephisto without life tap, doesn't help survival
Prayer - negligible regeneration, and what non-invincibuild fool doesn't use health/rejuvination potions
when they get hit in hell??
Thorns - silly
Blessed Aim - useless
Holy Freeze - useless, you already chill stuff with Frozen Orb and aura application is lagged; if I recall
correctly, at 9 frames, you teleport so fast that you should never even see the aura apply on new monsters

Defiance
Raising your defense means:
- decreasing your chance to get hit while teleporting, meaning less chances for teleport lock
- decreasing your merc's chance to get hit while fighting Mephisto
- ethereal/upgraded versions of your equipment are actually awesome

Nice guide
I made one pretty much like this, but my merc(defensive norm) doesnt seem to tank mephi. he is using a tal helm, kelpie snare and guardian angel atm. It might be also that he is lvl 70 with ~1.5k hp
should i change his gear or level him or what?

At 17 levels below Mephisto, your merc is getting insta-hit with every attack. Mercenaries won't do *well* until 85++ ish, iirc.

hardcore mf char should stay away from those motherfucking dolls anyway.. and use either insight or reaper
