tbh i can't even remember any of the fan service in SAO aside from that one Asuna scene in Fairy arc with the tentacles. (didn't change anything for me, series was still meh)
what ruined SAO for me was the characters, they just weren't that interesting and that hurt the plot a lot in my eyes.

this is why i'm looking forward to SAO Alternative Gun Gale next season.
totally new cast of characters and even the art styled changed for the better.
it was even written by a different author (the author behind Kino no Tabi (Kino's Journey) which is a great series) so i feel it actually has a chance to be good this time.

The manga has maybe 2 episodes of content left, wonder how they plan on keeping up.

well the Novel is still there so it not like they don't have anything to work with.
