I watched plenty of shows with echii and fan service, but sometimes they dont belong/blend well with the story.
So yes, fan service can completely ruin a good setting/story development.
i can't really say that it does.
it might make you dislike a specific character but in the end it doesn't really have that much effect on the actual plot.
Ecchi series are different though because fan service is like the very foundation for them.
so fan service not used well or the quality off it could hurt them a lot more, especially if the fan service is a major plot point like for example Valkyrie Drive's where girls had to lewd other girls to turn them into weapons.
though not all ecchi series are quite on that level and can be good, but i find alot of the time the plot in ecchi series are poorly written anyways and the things that saves them is the quality of the fan service.
that's why i tend to avoid Ecchi series, not totally because of the fan service but because the writing is poor and not that interesting.
if i had to think of another series i'd point out Occultic;Nine
like Overlord it's not an Ecchi series, but similarly the fan service is kept to one Character.
but i never thought that it hurt the plot or my enjoyment of it, i didn't love the character all that much myself either but she was cute and when her personality changed she was a lot more interesting.
it was still a really nice Sci-fi Mystery series.
