Might as well be a hard cap because it's being treated like one.
The #1 excuse every team had for not signing players was to get under the tax threshold. If that's not a cap, I don't know what is.

Also I'm pretty sure at the time Ryan Howard signed his deal, the tax threshold wasn't even in place. So it didn't have any role in signing other players then either. Since the Phillies are a big spending team as the homers say.. Why didn't they sign some of the other great FAs that came available after that shit Howard contract?

Thinking you can sign anyone is different, actually getting free agents to agree to join a team that gave Howard that contract at the time is even a harder task lol.

i like the new system

but i do wish it was mandatory for teams to pay a higher percentage of their revenues towards payroll; cards owners are cheap

i think the nhl does it

Should be minimum 50% of the revenue to players

Proven former ace*

Arrieta's career gonna drop off a cliff faster than Ryan Howard's.

Would never pay 25M/season for a 32 yr old pitcher who just came off his worst season since 2012. I don't need that 4.16 FIP (4.11 xFIP) for that price.

Arrieta is dead...

Can't wait for this season so we can relive this.

BUMP

Hey guys, wanna revisit the Arrieta signing yet? 🙄
