Howard was a 5 year 120+ million contract. Arrietas contract will have no bearing on the phils possibly signing Harper or Machado next season. They are paying nobody besides himself and Santana. So again I reiterate people over reacting to any contract in any sport, not to mention this fucking pathetic sport doesn’t even have a hard cap which makes all of your bitching even more pointless.

Might as well be a hard cap because it's being treated like one.
The #1 excuse every team had for not signing players was to get under the tax threshold. If that's not a cap, I don't know what is.

Also I'm pretty sure at the time Ryan Howard signed his deal, the tax threshold wasn't even in place. So it didn't have any role in signing other players then either. Since the Phillies are a big spending team as the homers say.. Why didn't they sign some of the other great FAs that came available after that shit Howard contract?
