Following the word of God would mean you sell all your material possessions and use it to feed and clothe the poor, yet religious people (not specifically Christians) still lead lives of relative luxury and give less than 10% of their income to charity. How could a follower of God even justify driving a nice car without being a hypocrite?
This is what I always wonder as well. There are so many conservative Christians who see socialism as a plague that must be avoided at all times, and at the same time they can't stop tooting their own horn about how they are "taking care of the needy" by financing some African kid's new crayons.
