Quote
The Washington Examiner reported Wednesday night that Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) is planning to propose an amendment during debate this week to create a single-payer health care system.

Daines doesn’t support single-payer. But his amendment is an attempt to splinter the Democratic caucus and expose the minority party’s divisions on how to reform the health care system.

OK, I don't care if he doesn't support it, but I do care that it will be introduced.

Quote
Over the past few weeks, Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Kamala Harris (D-CA), and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) have all voiced their support for “Medicare-for-all.” Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) told Vox’s Ezra Klein in April that he believes, “ultimately, in ideas like single-payer or ‘Medicare-for-all.’”

But there’s still not much appetite in the party to talk about single-payer right now. Instead, Senate Democrats say their focus has to be on defending the Affordable Care Act. “I’m optimistic the people of our country could rise up and demand a single-payer system, but right now we’re still fighting the battle of making sure they don’t succeed in repealing Obamacare,” Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) told me outside the Capitol on Tuesday. “I support single-payer — but in this environment? In this environment?”

In other words, Senator Sanders is whipping his Senate colleagues in opposition to single payer because it came from Republicans. No other reason than it came from "the wrong party" - The Democrats will continue to lose by placing party over country.

I supported Senator Sanders in the 2016 primary, but I'm done with this sellout and the shitty corporatist hyper-partisans he's attached himself to.

I expect nothing less from a watered down socialist that catered to his gun friendly populace to get reelected.

its quite simple: daines himself will not support his own amendment because he has no policy interest in it. which undoubtedly proves that this is just a ploy to force democratic senators to vote on an idea which is divisive among their own ranks. what sanders is doing here is telling his fellow democratic senators to simply refuse to take part in this ploy. this single-payer amendment isnt meant honestly and has no chance of becoming law - thats why sanders doesnt vote for it.

why's that guy introducing single payer if he opposes it, just playing political games? wouldn't fault sanders for not being baited by a troll

Comrade Bernie isn't voting for it because he doesn't gain from that vote.

See his rollover to Clinton and the DNC after they rigged the race. Where will he buy his next house? I wonder how much he'll get paid to run in 2020 and roll over to whoever the DNC decides is a better choice to pander.

they cant against the republican majority.

it was in the meantime voted on. all republican senators and the 4 usual suspects, ie the most conservative red state democratic senators like joe manchin and heidi heitkamp, have voted against it. all but those 4 most conservative democratic senators have voted "present".

trolljob foiled.
