It is for me. I have 27GB on my C: drive. It takes me 2.5 mins to make a backup. It takes me 5 mins to restore from one.
I use Acronis True Image. It allows you to make a bootable CD with the Acronis software on it. So even if the comp won't boot, you can get at your backups.

Cloning is slow as cured concrete.

i was reading about acronis, its highly recommended, but its not free

As I said before, if any of your drives are Western Digital, you can get it for free.

/e For all I know...they may have it free on other HDD manufacturer's sites.

/ee Also, I just checked EaseUS Partition Master (free) and it has some cooties.

However, Mini Tools Partition Wizard (free) is clean as per virustotal.com

ok thanks ill check those out. i though that windows 7 should already have a way to partition the hard drive?

I am currently running the "error-checking" thing. right click on the drive from "my computer" then pressed properties ---> tools tab ---> "check now". its going to take awhile. been like 5 min and only 1/10 of the way done it seems.

Or you coulod just run CrystalDiskInfo...it'll check the drive in about 2 seconds. :)

/e Well, it won't error check the drive, but it will make sure it's "Good". You shouldn't need to error check the drive, you'l know soon enough if it has bad sectors. Plenty of time to RMA if you need to.

ok so how do you use crytaldisk mark and crystaldisk info?

you just open cyrstaldisk info and it tells you everything u need to know by default? i saw online some1 had theirs says something like 96% good. mine dont have any percentage showing. does that mean 100% good, or do i need to run something on it?

Also crystaldisk mark seems slightly more complicated lol... i want to test a 1tb hdd and a 4tb hdd with it.

At 2:16 in this video, my hdd makes the exact same "grinding" noise... ive heard reviews say this drive can be noisy but is that a normal sound? sounds sort of bad?

CrystalDiskInfo is really fast...if it says Good in the upper left...you're good to go.

CrystalDiskMark is a HDD benchmark tool. Just select the drive you wish to benchmark and start the program.

diskinfo says good for both drives. and my new drive runs at 1 C cooler than my old drive. and my new drive is sitting in the 5.25 bay

look decent? not used to the numbers...

cool. mines a cheapo toshiba lol. i hear the WD blacks are sorta expensive.

heres a 16 gb test on my 1 tb hdd, so yea looks like my new hdd is faster.

and since the windows error test that literally took like 8 to 10 hours to run, and the cyrstaldiskinfo both said its good. i now need to partition the hdd. and then make a clone onto the partition.

so was the EAS program meant for partition?
