i tried the old gameboy cartridge trick but it didnt seem to work. can usb ports interfere with the signal of the usb dongle? like radiation or so?

i don't think that's an issue unless there's a solid wall consisting of tens of thousands of trash compacted usb ports between the tower and mouse.

so ruling out the battery and dirty sensor.. it's got to either be electrical interference caused possibly by having too much shit plugged in around the dongle, the sensor on the mouse is faulty, some post processing shenanigans, or most likely typical wireless interference, consumer good operate on a rather narrow range and anything from anywhere remotely nearby like a neighbor could be causing it, not necessarily just devices in or around your living space. It's why i avoid wireless devices like the plague, even in my relatively rural neighborhood it would happen often.

I suppose the easiest next step would be to attempt to use raw input and see if that does anything.

bad surface or bad sensor
change the surface
see if it tracks better
