so ruling out the battery and dirty sensor.. it's got to either be electrical interference caused possibly by having too much shit plugged in around the dongle, the sensor on the mouse is faulty, some post processing shenanigans, or most likely typical wireless interference, consumer good operate on a rather narrow range and anything from anywhere remotely nearby like a neighbor could be causing it, not necessarily just devices in or around your living space. It's why i avoid wireless devices like the plague, even in my relatively rural neighborhood it would happen often.
I suppose the easiest next step would be to attempt to use raw input and see if that does anything.
cant use cable mouses really. my dog eats them like they taste good. never tried one myself.
