Yes with service and taxes phones do cost more than the base cost.
Unfortunately for you, so do consoles. You usually need ancillary internet, perhaps a membership plan and they cost a lot more to power electrically than a phone. They have more accessories and each games costs money too whereas the only thing I've bought for my phone is a case and I've never spent a dime on an app.
Utility would be ease of access to the internet and the ability to communicate in multiple fashions. If you think using the internet on your game console is easy, you must be a poor bitch that's rationalizing not having a smartphone.
