That socket is going to be long dead before any sort of 'future proofing' kicks in. You're already using the strongest cpu that you can fit in it (and ever will be able to) and it's only a quad core.
Coffee lake or w/e its called will be able to fit in z170/270 boards & will be 6core.

Ram price is quite fine.
I7 would be preferable with this budget, games will take advantage HT in some newer titles.
How can you know if 3tb as storage is to much for his usage, personally I got 6TB and will run out later this year.
A 1080ti is about 950$ CA so will be hard to fit into the budget.
- as for PSU. Do not go for evga NEX series. G2, G3 or GS.
