I'm okay with money being spent to ensure the safety of the president and immediate family of the president and past living presidents.

It's the most distinguished office in the United States. The only other office in my opinion that holds anywhere near the same amount of weight is the Chief Justice of the Supreme court.

We were a bit hysterical about how this election is changing the landscape in politics but honestly it's more of the same. Populism isn't new and partisanship has always been a roadblock for self governance.
