Lol weaker on foreign policy than Obama...? Seriously over the last few months you've gone full shill mode.
As far as Assad, lets think for a second what would of happened to him if he would of just gave in. We don't have to look too far for a historical reference, that was in a similar predicament. He would of met the same faith as Gaddafi. He probably would of got fucked with a broom, his wife would of been fucked to death, his kids decapitated and every one he knew/was related to would of had a similar fate. The Alawite, Christians, Yazidis would of been enslaved or running for the hills. What would you do in his shoes?
Assad was a secular dictator in a fairly moderate Islamic country, he still stands for secularism. I would take him over what ever else you think is a better option that's there now. You continue to ignore the millions of Syrians that directly rely on safety from Assad. It's funny how when all the shit hit the fan most Syrians that didn't flea the country ran to government held areas. Even if we take Aleppo for example, the government controlled part had 1.2 million people(many fleeing from rebel held parts) compared to 300,000 (of which we know many were prevented from leaving by force, to be used as human shields) in rebel held Aleppo.
You continue to argue for a position blatantly disregarding the catastrophous outcome it will bring. Seriously i want to hear what do you think happens after he is deposed? What will happen to all the civilians that supported him? What will happen to the minorities (Shiite, Christian, Yazidis & others) that relied on his protection? Any answers? You want to drag the US in another Afghanistan or Iraq, where we need boots on the ground and trillions?
I wholeheartedly agree. Among a plethora of extremely shitty options, Assad is still one of the least shitty ones.
But that still doesnt mean that we should let him get away with the use of chemical wmds, in case the allegations prove true.
There must be some sort of reaction, but definitely not an american/nato invasion with massive boots on the ground. And whatever we push for on syria, a valid solution for the time after assad must be found before assad is sent into exile. Lets not repeat the errors of bush in iraq, where everything was focused on overthrowing saddam, but they had no plan for the time after.
