An argument can be reasonably made from this article that Trump didn't bumble and fumble his way to the White House, he played the public like a Stradivarius.

I'm torn between him being a mastermind at manipulating stupid people, or just innately good at it because he himself is stupid and rich.

He may have been well-coached, though. But that certainly is the picture that is painted. The biggest thing that stood out to me was that Steve Bannon is on the board of Cambridge Analytica (certainly makes his position as Trump's chief strategist a lot more clear).

Indeed.

I don't see how being stupid makes one good at manipulating the stupid.

No, that's just people relating to him, not being manipulated by him.

You really think normal Americans can relate to a born billionaire who's been sheltered from failure his entire life?

That's why such an ultra-tailored message was so key (like described in the article in the OP), because normal Americans can't relate to him.

He's good at manipulating people who don't think critically, like the masses. However once he gets into a position where he's not surrounded by yes men he flubs, which is why he's constantly been a national embarrassment since getting into office.

Darth Bannon is also on the Board of Directors for Putin Incorporated. Buzzfeed or their successor Buzzfeed 2.0 told us so

To start, this is an excellent article. It does a good job of really looking at the power of targeted marketing and how cool statistics and big data analysis can be. And it's accurate, which is quite rare with technological articles written for a non-technical audience.

I knew that Hillary wasn't terribly tech savvy, but to think that she was still using only demographic data really puts our ineptitude with technology and math on a new level. If the most important election in America doesn't even understand how to use this stuff...our educational system is really failing faster than I thought.

Props to Trump on running a legitimately cool experiment. I do hope some more advanced math begins to inform politics (as well as other areas of life), and maybe it will help us to understand math better as a nation...and put some things in perspective for a change!

ironic that the Republican candidate is the one who did this, despite all the clamoring by the left of them being the true intellectuals (they're actually mostly pseduo-intellectuals at best.) Then again Trump is not a traditional Republican. No way a dingbat like Rubio or Jeb! would have done this.
well actually you know, it was Russia who made Drumpf do the experiment and also Putin personally prevented Secretary (C)linton from doing the experiment because he is a misogynist!!!
