if you get chicken and rice and some veggies you can do that easiliy on low budget. but getting steaks, fish, and other things makes it more expensive than fast food
say you have a big mac meal + ice cream every day for lunch. that's 8 bucks/day (in Canada anyhow) for 56/week
going to the grocery store, you can buy 4 pounds of chicken breasts for 16 bucks. then you buy 4 pounds of rice for 5 bucks, some mix of veggies for 2 bucks and 2 liters of ice cream for four bucks. then you use about a buck's worth of salt and pepper. congratulations, you've spent half of your money on healthier food and if you don't want to be healthy you can stuff your mouth with ice cream and still pay much less.
people don't realize fast food is substantially more expensive than just cooking because they think a fast food's mean selling point is cheap food. it's not. it's convenience.
